Group Emergency Operations Centre
The Group Emergency Coordination Centre (GECC)
The Group Emergency Coordination Centre (GECC) is required to have the capacity to support the Group Controller in directing and coordinating all activities and exercising all the powers of the Group Controller during a state of emergency for the whole of the Bay of Plenty or any lesser area. The GECC is the central point for:
- Information gathering and dissemination
- Resource coordination
- Contact with other CDEM Groups and national agencies
The Group Controller has overall responsibility for regional coordination and CDEM Group activities when the GECC has been activated. The GECC also monitors activity of Local Emergency Operations Centres activated by district/city councils in the Bay of Plenty.
Where is the GECC?
The primary location of the GECC is Bay of Plenty Regional Council, 5 Quay Street, Whakatane. Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for providing staff and facilities. Where it is not possible for the primary location of the GECC to be used, the GECC will relocate to one of the other Bay of Plenty Regional Council offices in either Rotorua or Tauranga as appropriate.
