Group Emergency Operations Centre

The Group Emergency Operations Centre (GEOC)

The Group Emergency Operations Centre (GEOC) is required to have the capacity to support the Group Controller in directing and coordinating all activities and exercising all the powers of the Group Controller during a state of emergency for the whole of the Bay of Plenty or any lesser area. The GEOC is the central point for:

  • Information gathering and dissemination
  • Resource coordination
  • Contact with other CDEM Groups and national agencies

The Group Controller has overall responsibility for regional coordination and CDEM Group activities when the GEOC has been activated. The GEOC also monitors activity of Local Emergency Operations Centres activated by district/city councils in the Bay of Plenty.

Where is the GEOC?

The primary location of the GEOC is Environment Bay of Plenty, 5 Quay Street, Whakatane. Environment Bay of Plenty is responsible for providing staff and facilities. Where it is not possible for the primary location of the GEOC to be used, the GEOC will relocate to one of the other Environment Bay offices in either Rotorua or Tauranga as appropriate.
